Papier Coupé, 2021

Paper, cardboard, variable sizes

Sound texture.

Coming from Mexico, one of the things that surprised me most in Switzerland was the use of paper in letters. I realised that, culturally, in Switzerland, paper is still a very important form of communication. For me in particular, it generates stress, because it invades my personal space, the intimate places of my daily life. So I used all the paper around me to produce this piece, which I presented by giving them a piece of paper that said:

One paper more, one paper less,
papelitos por aquí, papelitos por allá.
How many papers have passed through our hands?

Paper occupies our space.
Therefore, it affects our acts, our reaction to the matter.
What’s your next move?
Symbols, ideas, life moves. Time caught.
It’s touch, it’s smell.
Read, and sometimes archived, kept.
But then the information expires, ceases to matter, is recycled, the process returns,
a loop is born.
